Heading over to my friend Gary Clark's house tonight, to put down some vocals on the new song called "stranded."
Then tomorrow getting up early and heading to Nashville, where i begin my sessions on Wednesday.
It's really exciting now, the record as been a long process of working out where i am at creatively and coming out the other end from such instant success after 12 or so years of being a singer-songwriter on the sydney scene, i had to go off and digest it in my own time to know where i was at. The whole time i've been writing and exploring the world. This record is going to be the most honest album i've recorded lyrically and musically. There's going to be no stone unturned emotionally, i wear my heart on my sleve and i like it that way..it's due for release in Feb next year..

I think the fact that you wear your heart on your sleeve is one of your best qualities. I'm glad it's one you intend to hang onto :)
ReplyDeleteIt's awesome that you have had the opportunity to spend so much time on this record because I think it's the first one that will truly be a snapshot of your life right now at this time and tell exactly the story you want it to tell. Your previous stuff has felt more like a collection of Wes's at different times of your life to me and the fragments of different stories didn't necessarily create one particular statement as a whole album. Is that the way you are going this time? How many times have you changed your mind about what you wanted the record to say/feel like? Have you written heaps of songs where you've gone back to them a week later and gone "wow that's shit, what on earth was this about?" and realized it was completely irrelevant already? haha Tell me more about your writing :)
